(Reuters) – The Dutch Statistics Office CBS revealed Wednesday that the March decline in consumer confidence was due to growing pessimism regarding the economy, and the conflict in Ukraine.

CBS reported that the indicator fell from -30 to -39 in February and March. This was its lowest point in nearly nine years.

According to the Office, “Consumers felt particularly negative about the economy during the next twelve months.” It added that this was the first time that the War in Ukraine had played any role in the survey.
