On Tuesday night, New Orleans was hit by a severe tornado that ripped through its suburbs and knocked out power lines. The storm also scattered debris from a section of New Orleans which had been severely damaged in Hurricane Katrina seventeen years earlier.

No injuries were reported from the New Orleans tornado. Another tornado that was triggered by the same storm system also struck parts of Texas, Oklahoma and killed one person. It caused widespread destruction and multiple injuries.

Local television stations captured a video showing a funnel-shaped object visible among New Orleans’ eastern buildings.

The tornado appeared to start in a New Orleans suburb and then move east across the Mississippi River into the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans and parts of St. Bernard Parish — both of which were badly damaged by Katrina — before moving northeast.

Reggie Ford was there when the tornado hit. He left the scene and returned once the storm passed to provide assistance to those who were in need. So far, he claims, streets seem quite peaceful, but are only filled with new devastation by the twister.

“I see the powerlines falling.” One church is totally destroyed. Three small businesses have been completely destroyed. Eight blocks of houses are without their roofs,” a New Orleans resident reported. The video he uploaded to Instagram shows debris-clogged streets, and crumbled buildings. On its roof, a battered vehicle lies.

Arabi was a New Orleans suburb. Residents and rescue workers stood outside to inspect the damage. Some homes were completely destroyed and pieces of debris could be seen hanging from wires or trees. The entire area was without power.

Michelle Malasovich lives in Arabi. At first, she was concerned for her relatives who live in the north of Louisiana and were getting affected by severe weather. When she was talking to her family in Louisiana, she stated, “All of sudden, the lights started flickering.”

Although she didn’t hear the freight train noise that is associated with tornadoes, it was very windy and her husband shouted at her to leave the bedroom. The tornado was coming from his porch.

Malasovich stated, “It just kept growing louder and more louder.” They came back to assess the extent of damage after it had passed. “Our neighbor is living in the middle street.”

According to Malasovich, the house did relatively well. Her Jeep’s windows were also blown away, and some columns fell off her porch. A house down the street was badly damaged and several parked cars were moved by winds.

Following a tornado that struck Round Rock (Texas), U.S.A on Tuesday, March 22, 20,22, an uprooted tree is found in the shopping center’s parking lot.

Guy McGinnis was the president of St. Bernard Parish. He said that parts of St. Bernard Parish bordering New Orleans were suffering “widespread damages”. Rescue teams went through houses looking for victims and responded to two calls by people reporting that they had been trapped in their bathroom.

McGinnis stated that no injuries have been reported as of now. “It will be a long, dark night.

At this time, it wasn’t clear if anyone had been hurt. The metropolitan area is frequently hit by heavy rains and severe weather, but it’s very rare for tornadoes to pass through the city.

Ridgeland was hit hard by high winds on Tuesday, when a potential tornado passed over the Jackson-area town. There were no reports of injuries to people or significant damage to buildings. Mississippi State University campus police in Starkville shared this photo showing a huge hardwood tree across a street.

In parts of Louisiana, and Mississippi, schools closed early or cancelled after-school activities Tuesday to let students get home in time for the bad weather. Residents who need shelter during storms can find it at the Shelters.

Authorities said that high water was a danger to motorists in Louisiana early Tuesday morning. It affected several roads including the Interstate 20 stretch and many state highways. This happened after overnight rains. The sheriff’s office in Caddo Parish (which includes Shreveport) tweeted that three motorists were saved from the high water during the night.

Storms could intensify as the temperatures rise. This will increase the danger of severe weather, including hail and tornadoes. According to forecasters, severe tornadoes were expected and dangerous winds with speeds up to 75 mph (120 km/h) in parts of Mississippi, eastern Louisiana and western Alabama. Bad weather was also predicted for Jackson, Mississippi and Baton Rouge in Louisiana.

As it moved through Alabama on Tuesday night, the system dumped heavy rainfall and downed trees. The National Weather Service tweeted that several roofs were damaged in Toxey after the system, which was preceded by tornado warnings, passed through the region.

Louisiana’s state and federal authorities reminded hurricane victims living in mobile homes or recreational vehicle trailers provided by the government to make sure they have an emergency plan, as the structure might not be able to withstand severe weather. Officials said that more than 8,000 people live in these temporary housing units.

Numerous tornadoes were seen in Texas on Monday, especially in Round Rock and Elgin. Also, in Texas, there was a spate of storms that occurred along Interstate 35.

In Elgin, broken trees lined the rural roads and pieces of metal — uprooted by strong winds hung from the branches. As they cleaned the remains of damaged ceilings and walls, residents took care to not damage power lines.

J.D. Harkins, aged 59, claimed that two tornadoes passed by his Elgin residence.

Harkins pointed out an unoccupied plot of land on the property of his uncle, and said that there was once a barn. Harkins said that the structure was unoccupied when Monday’s tornado struck, but his family was thankful no one was injured.

Harkins stated that it was “clear and clearly defined.” “And then one went down and the other one went up.”

The tornadoes came on a wild weather day in Texas — wildfires burned in the west and a blizzard warning was issued for the Texas Panhandle, where up to 9 inches (23 centimeters) of snow fell.

Victor Gensini from Northern Illinois University is a meteorology professor and severe storms expert. He said, “There’s absolutely no out of the normal in terms of what was seen yesterday and what we see today.” This is the season when storms and tornadoes can be expected. There are often more in years of a La Nina (natural cooling of Pacific regions that affects weather around the world), Gensini said.

Gensini stated that the biggest threat to tornadoes is nighttime strikes.

Texas Governor. Greg Abbott declared a disaster for sixteen counties hardest hit.

Abbott claimed that 10 people sustained injuries from storms in Crockett while 12 others were reportedly injured elsewhere.

Grayson County Emergency Management Office stated that a woman aged 73 was shot and killed in Sherwood Shores. It is located about 60-miles (95 km) north of Dallas. However, they did not provide any details.

Storm Prediction Center reports indicate that at least 12 Texas counties suffered damage to homes and businesses.

Officials confirmed damage to Jacksboro about 60 miles (100km) northeast of Fort Worth. Social media photos showed that a storm tore through Jacksboro High school’s roof and wall, including the gym.

Starla Sanders, school principal in Dallas, told WFAA TV that “it brought tears to mine eyes.”
