HOUSTON, (Reuters) – Union workers at Chevron (NYSE:) Corp’s Los Angeles-area refinery in El Segundo, California, on Wednesday were voting on a new labor contract, said union officials.
The vote at the southern California refinery comes as United Steelworkers union (USW) members at the company’s San Francisco Bay-area refinery in Richmond remained on strike for a third day after twice rejecting a similar contract proposal.
Tyler Kruzich from Chevron stated that they would not make any comment on the matter until the results of the vote to ratify the El Segundo refinery agreement by United USW Local 12-655.
B.K. said that Richmond has not seen any progress in renewing negotiations between Chevron, USW Local 12-5 and Richmond. The union represents Richmond workers. White is the first vice-president of the local.
Kruzich stated that the company is looking forward to going back to the negotiation table, as it operates the refinery and delivers products to its customers.
On Wednesday, California gasoline wholesale prices remained unchanged while regular gasoline prices in San Francisco Bay remained at $5.59 to $6.19 per gallon. This is the same price they were on Sunday.
Richmond has 245,271 barrels-per-day Richmond refinery (bpd) which employs more than 500 workers who are members of the union, and El Segundo’s 269,000-bpd El Segundo plant is home to about 1000 people.
These two refineries provide about 20% of California’s gasoline and are major fuel suppliers to Los Angeles-area airports.
