Apple to buy first large batch of carbon-free aluminum for iPhone SE -Breaking

(Reuters: Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:) on Thursday announced that it will purchase the first batch of large-scale carbon-free aluminium for use in its low cost iPhone SE. It is continuing its efforts to lower its carbon footprint by reducing its dependence on this metal.

The purchase price and size of the order were not revealed.

iPhone manufacturer Apple is taking measures to lessen its consumption of carbon-intensive metal, which emits greenhouse gases directly from the smelting process. This has caused a lot of investor, activist, consumer and shareholder disapproval due to its negative environmental effects.

Apple bought the first batch of this lab-made metal from Elysis (a Montreal-based joint venture between the two largest aluminum producers in the world) in 2019. Alcoa Rio Tinto (NYSE 🙂 Corp. It used metal for its 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Elysis originally intended to market its technology by 2024. It uses a ceramic anode for aluminum production and produces only oxygen.
