LOS ANGELES (Reuters] – Sunday’s Academy Awards will be the annual red-carpet ceremony honoring Hollywood’s best movies. These are the five most important things you should watch at the Academy Awards, which will air live on ABC in the United States.

SHOW SHAKEUP

Producers are trying new methods to increase viewership after last year’s record low TV ratings. The first time hosting duties are being shared by three women, comedians Amy Schumer and Regina Hall as well as Wanda Sykes. A Twitter (NYSE) poll will reveal the results for your favourite movie or scene. The live broadcast will begin with the announcement of winners in eight categories, including sound and production design. The broadcast will include their speeches, which is a way to wrap up the celebrations in three hours.

STEAMING BATTLE

The best picture statuette, the top film industry prize, has never been awarded to a streaming service. If awards observers are right, that could change this Sunday. The race is between Netflix Inc (NASDAQ) and Apple TV+ (NASDAQ:), the online streaming company run by Apple. Netflix’s dystopian Western “The Power of the Dog”, which received more nominations than any other film, was nominated 12 times. Apple’s CODA, about a deaf couple with a son who is interested in a career as a musician, was nominated for wins at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Director Face-Off

Jane Campion, who could be the third Oscars nominee for best director after 94 years of Oscars history, might win “Power of the Dog” as the Oscars go to the Oscars. Campion is the only woman who has been nominated twice in this category. Campion was nominated for her 1993 movie “The Piano,” but she lost to Steven Spielberg, “Schindler’s List” and others. Spielberg returns this year to compete with “West Side Story.” After Chloe Zhao, director of “Nomadland”, taking the trophy last year’s title, a Campion victory would give women back-to-back wins.

MOMENT FOR UKRAINE

The show’s mood will be celebratory but the broadcast will also acknowledge Russia’s invading of Ukraine. Producers say that while they hope to give an escape from all the troubles in the world, they feel the need to acknowledge the turmoil. “You don’t go into a show like this and not be aware of that and not find a way to respectfully acknowledge where we are,” producer Will Packer said.

MOST UNPREDICTABLE RACE

Experts say that the award could go to any one of five candidates for best actress. Jessica Chastain is the favorite for portraying Tammy Faye Bakker, a TV evangelist. Kristen Stewart is well-known for portraying Princess Diana as “Spencer,” and Bella the lovestruck vampire in the “Twilight.”

The pair are up against Penelope Cruz, who is making the Spanish-language movie “Parallel Mothers”; Nicole Kidman portrays Lucille (NYSE:) as “Being the Ricardos” and Olivia Colman in “The Lost Daughter”. Both of these actresses have won Oscars.
