NEW DELHI (Reuters), -India believes the disengagement from all Chinese and Indian forces, resulting in a stand-off at their border, is crucial for better relations. According to India’s foreign minister, Friday’s talks concluded with talks held in New Delhi between his Chinese counterpart.

Wang Yi, the most high-ranking Chinese official who has visited India in recent years after border conflicts in Ladakh (northern Himalayan) in June 2020 caused a dramatic deterioration between Asian giants.

Each nation has deployed thousands of troops at the border’s high altitude. There has not been much progress after more than 12 rounds of talks among senior military officers in an attempt to diffuse the situation.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s foreign minister, stated that he was honest with Wang during his discussions.

“The tensions and frictions caused by China’s recent deployments in April 2020 can not be reconciled with normal relationships between the neighbours.”

In a statement, Wang said the two sides should resolve their differences, adding that the world would listen if China and India spoke with one voice.

Jaishankar (a former diplomat to Beijing) said it was China who requested that India do not inform Wang about his trip prior to Wang arriving in Beijing on Thursday.

Wang was able to meet Ajit Doval India’s national safety adviser. He also demanded a de-escalation on the border.

However, India did not offer to reduce its military presence if China asked.

Jaishankar and Wang also spoke out about their countries’ strategies to deal with Russia’s invasion in Ukraine.

Jaishankar stated that both sides agreed on the necessity of an immediate ceasefire and a return of diplomacy.

China and India consider Russia friends and reject Western condemnation.

Wang has already visited Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nepal earlier this week. On Friday, he will travel to Nepal, a Himalayan country, as part of an energizing tour of South Asia. China wants to expand its reach in South Asia.

Wang was criticized by India after remarks he made about Pakistani disputed Kashmir. Each country rules a part of the region but claims full control. China is generally supportive of Pakistan on this matter.
