RZESZOW/WASHINGTON (Reuters – A conversation this month between Jill Biden & her Polish peer Agata Cornhauser-Duda helped accelerate medical help to those at the frontlines in the refugee crisis that arose after Russia’s invasion.

Kornhauser Duda was the wife to Polish President Andrzej Duda. They spoke to Biden (the wife of U.S. president Joe Biden) about Poland’s stretched response for millions of people fleeing conflict in Ukraine. According to the White House, they met on March 11, at Kornhauser Duda’s request.

The Polish president stated that Kornhauser Duda reached the United States a few days later and received medicine and equipment.

Duda said to President Obama, “I would like you to transmit my personal words to the First lady,” while she was traveling to an airport that is less than 100 km (62 mi) from the Polish-Ukrainian border. Thank you for your prompt assistance.

Both are teachers. Kornhauser Duda was a teacher at a Krakow high-school, while Biden is an English instructor at a Virginia community college. Jill Biden’s spokesperson declined to give more details on their interactions.

The Polish woman isn’t traveling with her. The Polish-born woman was not scheduled to travel in Poland.

This crisis brought together two NATO allies who had previously been at odds on issues such as media freedoms, judicial independence, LGBT rights, and LGBT rights. Duda is a social conservative and was close to Donald Trump’s father. He did not recognize Trump’s loss in the 2020 elections.

More than 2.23million people fled Ukraine to Poland, from 3.7million who fled the country since Feb. 24, when war broke out.
