WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Tesla Inc has recalled 947 cars in the United States due to the fact that the rearview may not display immediately when the vehicle reverses. This is according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

NHTSA was informed by the automaker that the recall applies to certain Model S, Model X and Model 3 2018-2019 vehicles, as well as Model X and Model X models from 2018. The cars were equipped with Autopilot Computer 2.2.5 and operated on specific firmware releases. They do not meet federal standards for rear visibility. Tesla (NASDAQ) will issue an over-the air software update in order to fix the problem.

NHTSA stated that a deferred rearview camera image decreases the driver’s view of the rear and can increase the chance of a collision. This recall is just the latest of a string Tesla has done for software problems in recent months.

Tesla on Dec. 19 https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2022/RCLRPT-22V169-2752.PDF began deploying firmware to a limited number of vehicles and its fleet monitoring tool soon “identified an abnormal frequency of computer resets among Model 3 vehicles” with that update, according to the recall notice dated March 18 but made public on Friday.

Tesla claimed that an engineering investigation of the condition found a possible cause in the “over-the-week” period.

After talks between Tesla & NHTSA for consumer complaints regarding alleged delays or inaccessible rearview-image displays, over a dozen tests began on February 9, after which more than one hundred were completed.

Tesla stated that, “despite Tesla not finding any noncompliance during the Tesla tests, an recall determination was made because of an abundance caution to recognize that there might be a problem with affected vehicles.”
