World Cup woes continue for Italy’s European champions -Breaking

(Reuters] – Italy shocked England last July when they won the European Championship final. But, having failed to qualify for World Cup number two consecutively, their Wembley win has left many fans wondering if it was a fluke.

Italy is embarrassed by its record in recent years, despite being the World Cup winner four times.

After winning their fourth World Cup trophy, 2006, the team has not participated in a knockout event in this showpiece event. They won only one match on the group stage at the finals.

The recent World Cup record they have set is more alarming.

Their shock loss to North Macedonia of low rank on Thursday, in their World Cup playoff semifinal, meant they did not reach the finals since 2014.

This is the second consecutive failure to qualify for the World Cup.

Italy finished second to Switzerland in their qualifying round, sending them to the playoffs. It will cause a fervent reaction from the home crowd.

Roberto Mancini said that it’s difficult for him to express his feelings right now.

“Last year was full of joy and happiness. This summer is filled with sadness. Although it is difficult to see the positives, I feel sorry for my boys. I still love them more now than I did in July.

“I’m the coach. I have the responsibility. The boys don’t. They are great players and have a bright future. This defeat was not our fault.

Italy scored 32 times to North Macedonia’s 5. However, it wasn’t as though Stole Dimitrievski was having the time of his life. It was not difficult for him to save and their inability to score was due to their wastefulness.

Blagoja Milevski, North Macedonia’s coach could not see the irony in their win last gasp.

Reporters were told that they had won Italian Style against the Italians. He said, “We won with two hits on target.” “I’m extremely happy with this victory and proud for these guys.”

North Macedonia will be facing Portugal for a spot in Qatar next Tuesday. However, regardless of what happens in the final playoff, the team will never forget their victory over Italy in Palermo.

However, for the Azzurri it’s back to square 1, 10 months after their best hour.
