DOHA (Reuters), – The European Union’s highest diplomat Josep Borrell stated on Saturday that Iran was very close to reaching an agreement with the world powers on reviving 2015’s nuclear deal. This would have Iran’s nuclear program under control in return for lifting harsh sanctions.

After the nuclear talks were close to agreement, Russia demanded that the United States make last-minute demands. This was in response to its invasion of Ukraine.

Borrell said these comments during Saturday’s address at Doha Forum.

Enrique Mora (EU coordinator for nuclear negotiations) said Friday that he would travel to Tehran to meet Iran’s chief negotiator.

Hossein Amirabdollahian (Iran Foreign Minister) stated that an Iranian nuclear deal could be achieved in the near term, if America is pragmatic.

The U.S. has been cautious about assessing the effort to revive it.
