‘Abbott Elementary’ star Quinta Brunson shared how a ‘self-worth journey’ put her on path for success

Quinta Brunson achieved a new level of success with her ABC sitcom “Abbott Elementary.” It broke all records. She was also a YouTube celebrity and a popular internet meme. 

Talk to EssenceBrunson, 31 years old, shared her story with magazine. She said that since childhood, Brunson has always been the performer in her family. She told the magazine that her family “kind of saw me as entertainment.” She said that they sold me around to their friends and let me perform little chores.

ABC’s ABC Comedy debut “Abbott Elementary” was its first comedy to quadruple its audience. ratingsSince its debut in December 2021. Brunson claimed that without having a deep self-worth journey, she would not have been able to make it happen. I want more Black women to have that self-worth. There is so much that we have to deal with. It can be a shield if we do our research and get to know who we really are,” she explained to Essence.

Brunson was a Temple University student before she became a mainstream celebrity. “disgusted”Mic interviewed her about the possibility of studying advertising. To save money for moving to LA, she took a risk and quit school to work at Apple. Brunson was urged by her friends to write a humorous blog. skitShe became an instant viral phenomenon on Instagram in 2014. She was able to land a Buzzfeed job as a content creator and producer, thanks to her comedy and charisma. NBC BLK reports. 

Her love for school, as a child, was the inspiration behind “Abbott Elementary”. Joyce Abbott is also the show’s nameake. Joyce recalls Brunson being smart as a student. We had news coverage at least three to four times during Quinta’s year in my class. Quinta used to stand up, speak and one newspaper even wrote, “We entered the classroom, and were met by Quinta Brunson,” she explained to Essence.

Brunson claims she created Abbott as an answer to how harsh the world can sometimes be. Every episode showcases the characters working through difficult issues and reaching positive solutions. 

Brunson explained to Essence that life can sometimes be difficult and terrible, but humans are resilient because they have the ability to see light even in darkness. It’s my belief that this is the reason we still live on this planet. That’s why Black people remain here. It’s really important for us to shine the spotlight. This is a very important aspect of our lives and I was happy to play a small part in it.”

During an interview for NBC. TODAYBrunson stated that she loves the idea of people sharing their experience with the family. It means so much to me that generations gather to see the show. This is exactly what I wanted. Hoda Koutb and Kelly Rowland said she wanted to show the sitcom to families the same way that I watched it with my family growing-up.

Brunson stated that the preparation for her show was influenced by her experiences as a behind-the-scenes performer.

She shared that she was involved in writing and acting for various shows, and knew eventually that she wanted to create a sitcom. All the work you do prior to that will lead up to it. I was able to build relationships with other creators, networks and loved it all. I love what I did leading up to Abbott. I continue to do more.
