HONG KONG (Reuters). China Evergrande New Energy Vehicle Group stated that they will accept orders for their inaugural electric car, Hengchi 5. This sport utility vehicle is available in China’s major cities.

According to the official Wechat account, Liu Yongzhuo was the president of China Evergrande Group’s electric vehicle (EV), arm. The comment came at an online meeting that nearly 200 parts suppliers from around the globe attended on Sunday. Although the social media posting didn’t specify when, it did say that they will begin accepting orders.

This comes at a time when the EV company has struggled to attract external investment. Evergrande said in an investor call that last week, it wanted to attract investors to support the unit’s finances. This is a goal it had pursued for many months with little success.

Evergrande New Energy Vehicle stated in November that it was engaged with potential buyers to dispose of certain assets, and is currently talking with investors regarding funding.

Hui Ka Yan is Evergrande’s chairman. He stated that the company would begin mass production in June 22nd, after receiving clearance from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The plan was to also start selling earlier this month.

According to the Wechat message of EV, sales centers will be in Tianjin and Shanghai as well as Guangzhou.
