Gunmen kill 19 at Mexican cockfighting party, others wounded -Breaking

(Reuters) -A nighttime attack by gunmen on a clandestine cockfighting site in Mexico on Sunday left 19 dead, according to authorities. Several other victims were also reported as being hospitalized.

Filming was done in Las Tinajas state, Michoacan. The Jalisco New Generation cartel is known for fighting small local gangs to control drug routes.

In a statement, the office of the state procuror stated that three of the victims were women and added that the investigation was underway to find out who was behind the shootings.

According to the statement, all the victims were shot and police are investigating reports that some other individuals had been injured.

Las Tinajas lies in Zinapecuaro (about 50 km (30 mi) northeast of Morelia.
