Carl Icahn will expand his animal welfare campaign to include the country’s biggest supermarket chain. KrogerAfter activist investor and founder of the company, he was later renamed McDonald’s.

Icahn submitted an application to nominate two candidates for Kroger’s board. The Cincinnati-based company is located in Icahn. said in a release Tuesday.

Kroger claimed that Icahn first informed it of its plans on Friday. Kroger said Icahn raised concerns about animal welfare during their discussion.

Icahn addressed Kroger with a letter addressing the disparity in compensation between Rodney McMullen’s CEO and that of its median worker. This was according to Scott Wapner at CNBC.

Kroger’s Tuesday announcement comes just a few months after Icahn. launched a proxy fight with McDonald’sIcahn spoke out about the treatment of pigs. Icahn spoke out about his relationship with fast-food company CNBC last Tuesday.

Wapner was told by Icahn that he wasn’t doing it to make money. “Closing Bell: Overtime.”

Icahn, however, described his attempts as a way to address his concerns about animal rights. Icahn said, “Emotionally it bothers me when you see the cruel and unjustifiable treatment they give these animals.” Icahn stated that he does his best to make a difference whenever possible.

Kroger announced that it will examine Icahn’s board nominations, Alexis C. Fox (and Margarita Palau – Hernandez) as part its standard governance practices. Kroger also discussed Icahn’s concerns about animal treatment.

The press release stated that Kroger was not involved in the raising and processing of animals. However, Kroger committed to protecting the welfare of all animals in its supply chain. Kroger has a Responsible Sourcing Framework that clearly defines our policies, requirements, and practices. This includes our Animal Welfare Policy. It outlines our expectations that all suppliers will be free from gestation crates in 2025.
