Cement maker Holcim to quit Russian market -Breaking

REUTERS/Arnd WiegmannZURICH (Reuters, ) – Holcim (SIX) Russia’s largest cement-maker announced Tuesday that it is leaving the Russian market. This was the second exit from the west following the invasion of Ukraine by Moscow.
According to a statement, the Holcim Board of Directors had decided to begin the Russian market exit plan in compliance with company values.
Holcim stated that the Russian business decision follows Holcim’s earlier announcement of suspending all capital investments on the market.
Holcim’s Russian operations generate around 1% of the company’s sales and profits. It employs approximately 1,500 people. The company is currently looking to buy the business.
Initial operations were kept running by the company, claiming it was only supplying building materials.
Holcim said that the Board expressed its deep concern at the human suffering in the region, and was fully committed to helping affected families, communities and individuals.
A host of western multinationals include Nestle, Philip Morris, (NYSE:), and video gamemaker Sony In recent weeks, the (NYSE) decided to pull back from Russia as consumers from the West pressured them to oppose the invasion.
