Virginia Thomas was a Republican activist, and the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. This is according to a source who has been familiar with the matter.
The Select Committee of U.S. House of Representatives conducted many interviews as part of its investigation into the attack on Capitol in 2017 by supporters of President Donald Trump, just as the lawmakers were about to approve the 2020 election.
Thomas was invited to testify by the January 6 committee, which met behind closed-doors on Monday evening. After the meeting, Representative Bennie Thompson (chairman of January 6-commission) told reporters that Thomas had yet to be asked to testify.
CNN, among others, reported that Monday’s meeting was being held by the committee. The report came after Virginia Thomas’ texts were released to Mark Meadows (then-chief of staff) last week.
Virginia Thomas goes by Ginni and is very active in conservative circles. She also stated in an interview earlier this month that she was at Trump’s rally before the Capitol riot.
Thomas repeated 29 times to Meadows after Trump’s loss and asked him repeatedly to get involved in the effort to reverse the results. Meadows was found to be in contempt by Congress because he refused to cooperate fully with Jan. 6’s probe.
Ginni Thomas representatives could not be reached immediately for comment. Also, representatives for Clarence Thomas or the Supreme Court could not be reached right away.
Thomas was, according to the court, admitted last week to a hospital with an infection. He was also the only dissenting voice when Trump asked the U.S. Supreme Court not block Trump from releasing records requested by the congressional panel.
