REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File PhotographWASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. Federal Trade Commission requested that a court issue an order prohibiting the use of certain products on Monday. Use Intuit TurboTax, the creator of tax preparation software TurboTax is deceptively advertising tax filing without any fees when many people must pay.
According to the FTC which is responsible for antitrust enforcement and law against deceptive advertisement, it filed a complaint at the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of California.
TurboTax’s advertisements were repeatedly emphasized in the complaint as being free.
TurboTax costs a fee depending on which tax forms you need. Intuit informs many other users that after they’ve spent time gathering their financial and personal information and preparing their tax returns using TurboTax, they can no longer use the service for free. They will have to pay extra to get TurboTax.
