COPENHAGEN, Reuters – Pandora (OTC) a jewellery manufacturer said Wednesday that it was leaving the Responsible Jewellery Council. The industry group failed to end ties with Russia.

RJC sets standards of ethical conduct for jewellery and watch industries and has Richemont’s Cartier as its members. Tiffany & Co Pandora stated that (NYSE:) has not asked its members to stop doing business with Russia after its invasion of Ukraine.

Alexander Lacik, Chief Executive of the company said that “the war demands all businesses to take full responsibility for any business interactions with Russia or Belarus.”

He said that Pandara could not in good conscience be a member if an association does not reflect our values.

RJC wasn’t immediately available to comment.

Russia’s Alrosa State-Owned, which is the largest producer of diamonds in the world, has resigned from RJC’s board. But, the association’s website still lists Alrosa as a member.

Alrosa, which was put on the UK sanction list last week, has been targeted by Washington. Washington also targets Sergei Ivanov (the CEO of the company), who the U.S Treasury claims is among Putin’s closest friends.

RJC stated earlier in the month that it was “saddened” by the current geopolitical environment surrounding the Ukraine crisis. It said it will continue to monitor it “in compliance with international regulations, and update its members as the situation evolves.”

After what was called by the Kremlin a “special army operation”, Pandora has terminated all relations with Russia or Belarus.
