GENEVA (Reuters), Richemont, Cartier owner, has resigned as the Responsible Jewellery Council’s (RJC) chief financial officer Burkhart Grund announced Wednesday to reporters at the Watches and Wonders sector fair for watchmakers that the organization had not cut ties with Russia.

We’re not making a statement, but we are trying to maintain the high standards that we have set over the past 15 years. RJC must uphold high standards or we will not be able to participate in that. Grund stated that this is why they resigned.

Grund stated that the luxury company would investigate how it could certify labels to ensure consumers are safe.

Pandora Jewellery (OTC) announced on Wednesday that it is cutting ties from the RJC. This organization sets ethical standards for jewellery and watches industry.

Richemont has also announced that it had stopped purchasing diamonds from Russia since February 24, and has suspended e-commerce activities in Russia.
