REUTERS/Marco Bello/File Photo(Reuters) – On Thursday, a federal judge in Florida invalidated several Republican-backed voter restrictions. He ruled that the new voting restrictions violate constitutional rights of minorities.
U.S. district judge Mark Walker blocked the government from applying provisions to decrease the use of dropboxes for voting. It made it difficult for third party organizations to collect registration forms for voters and banned groups from giving food, water or any other help to those waiting to vote.
Florida’s law is among several sweeping voting restrictions passed by Republican-controlled states in the wake of Republican former President Donald Trump’s baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
