GameStopAfter the announcement that it would be implementing a stock splitting, shares rose in extended trading on Thursday

Video game retailer stated that it would seek approval from stockholders at its next shareholder meetings for an increase in Class A stock stock numbers, from 300,000,000 up to 1,000,000,000. It also said that it intends to conduct a partial stock split as a dividend.

After-hours trading on Thursday saw the stock jump 17% after the announcement.

It wasn’t clear how much the additional share count would be used to split the stock. GameStop included a line in its regulatory filing suggesting that some of the increased share count could be used for another purpose, such as selling additional stock.

According to the company, this authorization could also be used “provide flexibility for future corporate requirements”.

GameStop announced that the final approval of GameStop’s board will determine whether or not the stock dividend can be paid.
