Four-day workweek pilot program is now underway in the U.S. and Canada

A total of 38 U.S.-based companies have made the four-day week a reality, at least in the next few months.

This pilot program is being directed by 4 Day Week Global,It began on Friday and will last for at least six months. Participants include the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, and several tech companies.

Joe O’Connor (CEO of 4 Day Week Global) said that some additional U.S. firms will sign up later, when the planned U.K. trial begins on June 1st. The trial is being offered by more than 50 British firms with approximately 3,000 employees.

It is a simple idea that employees should work at least 80% for 100% of their pay while maintaining 100% productivity. This boils down to efficiency and reducing unnecessary meetings.

O’Connor stated that “more and more businesses are realizing that quality of life is the next frontier in competition, and that a reduced-hour and productivity-focused work environment is what will give them that competitive advantage.”
