(Reuters] – Roblox Corp, an online gaming platform said Thursday Apple Inc (NASDAQ :)’s App Store gives privacy and safety benefits its users. The move supports Epic Games’ appeal against the iPhone-maker in a crucial U.S. antitrust trial.

Epic, which is best-known for Fortnite, lost its trial in the 9th U.S. Circuit last year. It was questioned whether Apple’s app maker fees and payment policies were anticompetitive. The 9th U.S. appeal was filed by Epic. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Roblox stated in a legal filing that Thursday, “Apple’s review and approval process of apps available in the App Store enhances security and safety and gives those apps greater legitimacy before the eyes of the users,” Roblox added.

Roblox was a key player in last year’s original trial. In the Antitrust Trial between Apple and Epic Games in which Epic Games was accused of giving Roblox an unrestricted pass, the Department of Justice (DOJ), will be probing the key facts. Roblox’s app allows users to select from many games.

Roblox’s offerings were described as “experiences” by an Apple senior executive. Roblox soon changed its description of Roblox’s offering to “experiences” instead of “games”, and declared itself a metaverse business.

Apple said that its rules provide several benefits to consumers including privacy and increased security. Apple supported this argument on Thursday with the support of two ex-directors of Central Intelligence Agency, and 21 former U.S. officials in national security.

It is anticipated that the appeal hearing will take place next year.
