(Bloomberg). — An investor is betting on U.S. double-digit growth by the summer.

On Thursday, the trader purchased a large chunk of 31,382 option contracts that gave them the right of buying gas at $10 per British thermal unit by July 31. According to Bloomberg block trade data, the trader also sold $10.50 calls, which will expire the next day.

It cost less than two cents per million btu gas, which is equivalent to the difference in price between $10.50 and $10.50 calls. The transaction also totaled over $5million. A rally to $10.50 would be most beneficial to the trader before options expire July 26. This will allow it to earn 50 cents per millilitre, which is more than 150 million less the premium.

Due to tight supplies of natural gas fuel for heating and power plants, as well as booming export demand, natural gas futures rose more than 50% during the first quarter. This was a new record. However, it is unlikely that natural gas futures will rise to $10 this summer. Bloomberg analysts forecasts that the commodity would average 3.70 cents per quarter should see it trade in New York on Friday.
