Sarah Palin (ex-Alaska governor, onetime Republican vice presidential nominee) announced on Friday that she will be seeking Congress.

Palin was Sen. John McCain’s running-mate in the presidential race 14 years ago. She then jumped into the race for the vacant seat that GOP Rep. Don Young held for nearly 50 years until he passed away last month.

Palin stated that “Public service calls” and she would be proud to serve as the representative of Alaska’s men and women in Congress. America has reached a critical point. After watching the far right destroy our country, I realized I needed to join the fight.

Palin announced that she was addressing “out of control inflation”, empty shelves and rising gas prices and pledged to “combat left’s socialist big-government agenda and America-last agenda.”

She wrote, “I am in the race to win it” and joined the fight for freedom with other patriots who are willing to risk everything to save their country.

Palin’s intent to run for full-term is unclear. Palin stated that she was running for the Special Election triggered by Young’s passing. Over 40 people have filed to run for this open special election.

Palin’s journey to Congress is complicated. The special primary is scheduled for June 11 — but it’s open to any party affiliation. Four of the top vote-getters will be able to advance to August 16’s special general elections. Ranking-choice voting will decide the special election winner.

Young will serve the remainder of Young’s term, while Young is elected as the winner.

Palin helped to usher in new GOP politics more then a decade back. However, he has also flirted with the idea of returning to Washington.

NBC News reported in 2016 that she expressed an interest in a role for Trump’s transition staff.

She was also featured in recent news due to her lawsuit for defamation against The New York Times. Two court cases against her have been lost.

Palin was in New York to attend court proceedings. She had been criticized for eating at a local restaurant just two days before she became positive for Covid-19. She was seen indoors eating despite not being vaccinated.
