Elon Musk spent $2.64 billion on Twitter shares so far this year, new filing shows

TeslaChief Executive Officer Elon MuskHas been purchasing TwitterThe investor has been buying shares almost every day since January and spent $2.64 billion to secure his existing stake. According to an SEC filing Tuesday.

This disclosure was made public by a 13D filingIt confirms Musk plans to get more involved with Twitter’s business. Musk held 9.2% in the company as of Monday. But, this was only via an a 13G filingThe symbol indicates a passive interest for someone who doesn’t want to exercise control or influence. 

Following Tuesday’s announcement by Twitter CEO Parag Agwal and Twitter, Musk was appointed to the company’s board of directors.

According to the most recent filing Musk began buying shares of his preferred social media firm on Jan. 31, continuing until April 1. A total of 73.1 millions shares have been purchased by Musk. They are now worth $3.73B as of Tuesday’s close.

He bought $176million worth of shares, which was more than 4.8million. The lowest Twitter share price for the year was $32.42 on March 7. They closed January at $37.51.

According to Monday’s filing, Musk can not own more than 14.9% Twitter stock for as long as he is on the board.
