DETROIT, (Reuters) – General Motors Co. (NYSE) launched Wednesday an advertising campaign to promote its Chevrolet Bolt. It was designed to re-engage consumers after the recall which had halted production of the electric car for seven months.

Following Monday’s return to Bolt production at Orion Township in Michigan, the ads’ first airings will take place on Thursday.

According to Steven Majoros, Chevy’s marketing director, Bolt may finish second in media spending this year behind the Silverado pickup. However, he did not disclose specific spending plans. GM spent $3.3billion on promotion and advertising in the last year.

Bolt’s ads that Majoros showed to reporters during the conference call didn’t address the recall. Majoros claimed it hadn’t damaged GM’s reputation.

Bolt’s record-breaking sales were predicted by Bolt for this year as well as 2023. These numbers surpass the 23,300 previous peak.

GM had already stopped the sale of Bolt vehicles and enlarged its recall to include more than 140,000 to replace batteries after a number of vehicle fires. The company announced in August that all Bolt models manufactured after 2017 were recalled.

Detroit’s automaker, Ford Motor Company, had two weeks of restricted production at Orion in October to supply courtesy transport vehicles to customers during recall repairs.

U.S safety regulators stated that they reviewed reports on 24 Bolt fires. GM however previously claimed it had suspected 18 of these fires to be related to the battery issue.

GM had previously stated that its agreement with LG Electronics, LG Chem and LG Chem (GM’s partner in battery solutions) allowed the company to offset most $2 billion of recall costs.

U.S. safety officials announced Tuesday that they have opened an investigation to verify all LG Energy Solution defective batteries had been recalled.
