Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The index fell 0.94%, and the NSE lost 0.83% at the closing.

These were the best performers of the session Coal India Ltd (NS): traded at 193.85 after the close by rising 3.17%, or 5.95 points. Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS: ) added 2.77% to the price of 126.05, which is 3.40 points. NTPC Ltd (NSS:) was up by 2.62% to 153.00, or 3.90 point in late trade.

They were also the session’s worst performers HDFC Bank Ltd (NS): The close was marked by a 3.57% drop or 57.40points, and trades at 1,550.85 Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NS.) lost 3.34% (or 87.65) to finish at 2,536.05. HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd. (NS.) dropped 2.40% (or 13.65) to reach 556.00.

The BSE Sensex 30 top performers included NTPC Ltd., which rose 2.61% and settled at 153.05; Tata Steel Ltd. was up 1.94% and settled at 1,371.00; and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. which increased 1.52% to reach 236.60.

HDFC Bank Ltd.(BO:), which fell 3.51% to 1,550.80 late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. Ltd. (“BO:”) which dropped 3.26% to settle in at 2,536.50, and HCL Technologies Ltd. [BO:] which declined 2.07% to 1,170.80 by the close.

Indian National Stock Exchange: Rising stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1171 to 658. 33 ended unchanged. Bombay Stock Exchange: 2126 rose, 1175 fell, and 93 ended unchanged.

Shares of NTPC Ltd. (NS:), rose to three-year highs, gaining 2.62% and 3.90 to 153.00. The shares in NTPC Ltd. (BO) rose by 2.61%, or 3.90 to 153.05. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (BO) shares rose 1.52%, or 3.55 to 236.60.

The implied volatility index of the Nifty 50 options was up by 2.89% to 19.02.

The June Gold Futures were down 0.8%, or 1.60, to $1.925.90 per troy ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil rose 1.43 percent or $103.39 to $103.39 per barrel. The June Brent oil contract increased 1.17%, or 1.25, to $107.89 per barrel.

USD/INR appreciated 0.45% to 75.76 and EUR/INR climbed 0.47% up to 82.65

At 99.53, the US Dollar Index Futures rose 0.10%.
