LONDON (Reuters – Generali’s rebel investor (MI:), could sue if his proposal to appoint the top executive at Italy’s largest insurance company loses in a shareholders vote, according to the candidate.

Claudio Costamagna (NYSE:), a former Goldman Sachs banker, said in an interview that Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone was a Generali investor and could sue the other side for a victory at the AGM held April 29 to elect a new Generali Board if the margin of defeat is lower than 6%.

He said that Caltagirone’s camp is “hopeful” to secure the vote from Italy’s Benetton families, which hold around 4% of Generali.
