REUTERS/Aaron Bunch(Reuters) – Crown Resorts could face fines up to A$100 Million ($75.82million) from the Victorian Gambling Regulator after an investigation found that Crown Resorts allowed illegal transfers of Chinese funds.
Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission, (VGCCC), announced Tuesday that it will initiate disciplinary proceedings against what was called the “China Union Pay process”. It is an issue discovered by Victoria’s royal commission into Crown’s license.
Crown stated Wednesday that they would fully cooperate with the VGCCC regarding the findings of the royal commission report.

According to the Royal Commission into the Casino Operator & Licence, the China Union Pay Process involved the use of the China Union Pay Bank Card between 2012 – 2016 in order “allow international patrons funds in order to wager at Crown Melbourne.” This was to evade Chinese currency restrictions.
RCCOL discovered that Chinese patrons illegally transferred up to A$160 Million in funds.
“As a preliminary step, we will act on the Royal Commission’s findings that Crown’s China Union Pay process violated important Victorian regulatory obligations and was illegal, as well as constituted serious misconduct,” VGCCC Chair Fran Thn stated, while the regulator promised there would be more.
Crown was found unsuitable for a Melbourne gambling license by an inquiry held in October. However, Crown was allowed to operate its largest-earning casino with supervision.
