REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo/File Photo(Reuters) – The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is currently investigating Amazon.com Inc’s (NASDAQ:) employee disclosures regarding third-party seller data used to promote its private-label businesses, according to the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.
According to the report, the federal regulator has requested communications and emails from several Amazon senior executives.
Amazon didn’t immediately reply to our request for comment. However, a spokesperson from the SEC refused to comment.
Amazon is accused of repeatedly stealing products from other websites and exploiting internal data to market its merchandise. Amazon has refuted the accusations.
Amazon began an internal investigation after several media reports were published in 2020. It was investigating whether Amazon’s employees promoted its private-label company using sellers’ data.
According to the report, the company declined to share its findings with a congressional committee, which had previously investigated the major e-commerce company.
