China’s Shandong TV to launch NFT marketplace

The television network of eastern China’s Shandong province has unveiled plans to build an NFT marketplace, making it the latest state-run media outlet to jump on the bandwagon.

Shandong Television is looking to deploy its own blockchain infrastructure to support its digital collectibles, as well as develop “a series of metaverse products,” the network said in a Monday statement.

While no timeframe was provided for the product by the TV network, it said its digital collectibles would focus on themes such as ancient architecture and cultural heritage. Particularly, Shandong Television mentioned the province’s rich Confucian culture and tourist hotspots such as Mount Tai as valuable assets for its NFT collection.

China, despite its strong anti-crypto stance has not yet established clear rules for NFT transactions. NFTs, which are often referred to in the region as digital collectibles, were denounced by Chinese state media following the denial of market panic over NFTs. Chinese-based NFT service providers have attempted to counter speculative trade.

According to BTCPEERS, Weibo, a Chinese social media company (NASDAQ:), recently opened TopHolder NFT market. The platform does not allow traders to flip assets and allows for free transfers once the 180-day hold period has expired. Shandong TV did not specify how much freedom its users would have on the marketplace.
