Costco Earnings, Revenue Miss in Q2 -Breaking

Costco (NASDAQ) reported Wednesday that the second quarter of fiscal year 2012 was a disappointment to analysts and that revenue fell below expectations.

Costco posted earnings per share (EPS) of $2.95 on revenues of $21.61B. Investing.com asked analysts to forecast EPS of $2.97 based on $49.58B in revenue.

Costco shares rose 3% over the first of the year but are down 0.34% from April 6’s 52-week peak of $586.80. They are outperforming the S&P 500 which is down 5.98% from the start of the year.

Costco joins other Consumer Staples major earnings this month

Costco’s announcement follows an earnings beat reported by Alimentation Couchen A (March 15), who reported EPS $0.7 on revenue $18.58B. Forecasts for EPS $0.6452 were made on revenue $18.11B.

General Mills exceeded expectations in March 23, posting EPS $0.84 for the third quarter on revenues of $4.54B. This compares to the forecast of EPS $0.7834 on revenues of $4.54B.
