KKR to list Japan’s Kokusai Electric as early as June, sources say -Breaking

REUTERS/Brendan McDermidTOKYO (Reuters) – U.S. private equity firm KKR & Co (NYSE:) Inc plans to take Japanese chip equipment maker Kokusai Electric Corp public in an IPO as early as June, three sources said, in what is likely to be Tokyo’s biggest listing in more than three years.
The size of Kokusai Electric’s initial public offering (IPO), was unclear at the time. However, one source said that the company would list with a market capital of about 700 billion yen ($5.67billion).
According to Refinitiv data, this would make the company Tokyo’s largest listed company since SoftBank Group Corp had its telecom unit listed in Tokyo in 2018. It was valued at 7.2 trillion Japanese yen (late 2018), according to Data.
According to three sources, the Tokyo bourse will approve the listing in May. However, they declined to identify themselves as the matter is still confidential.
SMBC Nikko Securities (a Sumitomo Mitsui unit) and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group are the lead underwriters. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE) – Two sources claimed.
According to three sources, KKR intends to sell a portion of its stake overseas and domestically.
KKR, Kokusai Electric and the Tokyo Stock Exchange all declined to comment.
In June 2018, Hitachi spun off Kokusai Electric (OTC:) Kokusai Electric Inc.
