(Reuters) – Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ) stated Thursday that it stopped Russian spy-military hackers from trying to hack into American and European targets.

According to the blog, the tech firm stated that “Strontium”, an organization it called, used seven Internet domains to spy on US and EU government think tanks, as well Ukrainian institutions like media organisations.

Microsoft could not name any targets.

Microsoft calls the group Strontium, which Microsoft refers to as Fancy Bear or APT28. It is a hacking team that has been linked with Russia’s military intelligence service.

Washington’s Russian Embassy did not respond to our request for comment immediately.

Since February, when Russian troops invaded Ukraine in 2002, hacking has plagued Ukraine.
