VLADIKAVKAZ (Russia) – Russian families buried their relatives in Ukraine on Friday with military brass bands and automatic gun salutes. This came just a day after Russia admitted that it has lost large numbers of troops for the first.

Russia sent “special forces” of tens and thousands of troops to Ukraine on February 24, in what it described as a “special operation”. Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesperson, said that Thursday’s losses had been “a terrible tragedy”

Relatives gathered to mourn Vitaly Dyadyushko in Vladikavkaz, a town near the Caucasus Mountains, Friday’s burial at Vostochnoe cemetery.

The soldier was flanked in open casket by two soldiers, one in uniform and the other in black, as a weeping, naked woman kissed his face. The coffin was surrounded by a Russian Orthodox priest who waved incense.

Alexander Kusey, the local leader said Dyadyushko (from Arkhonskaya), left behind four sisters, and a mom.

He was from a big family and was the one to provide for them. His assistance was invaluable, and I’m not sure how they will cope without him. “He wasn’t married. He didn’t have the chance. But he was very young. It’s sad when young people pass before their time.

After the coffin had been lowered to the ground, the military brass band performed the national song and the honour guard issued a salute with automatic weapons.

A few minutes later, mourners began to gather for Ruslan Kozayev’s funeral. A woman in her 80s gently touched him on the cheeks.

More than 20 graves of soldiers killed in Ukraine are visible in another part of the cemetery.
