WASHINGTON (Reuters] -Former President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he will endorse celebrity surgeon Dr. Mehmet O, who is running in Pennsylvania as a Republican to the U.S Senate.

Trump stated in a statement that Dr. Oz was smart and tough and would never disappoint you. He also had his Complete and Total Endorsement.

Oz is best known for his syndicated show “The Dr. Oz Show.” This name recognition will be a major factor in a Nov. 8-2022 contest, which could decide control of the Senate, and what happens to Democratic President Joe Biden.

Pennsylvania’s 2020 election was won narrowly by Biden, while Republicans gained seats in the state legislature. Many observers predict that the race will end in a tie after Pat Toomey’s retirement.

Toomey was among seven Republican senators that voted in Trump’s favor in February 2021, following Trump being impeached on an incitement to insurrection charge. The Senate vote, 57-43, was not enough to secure the two-thirds majority required for Trump’s conviction.
