AUGUSTA GA (Reuters) – Scottie Scheffler, the world number one golfer, takes control of Sunday’s Masters tournament. Tiger Woods is still far from the leadboard.

Scheffler is the world’s top golfer and Cameron Smith of Australia won the Players Championship in March. The first major of the year looks set for a Green Jacket battle between them.

Scheffler was poised to win the title with a 6-shot advantage in the third round, but he faltered to finish the round with three bogeys. This set up an Augusta National drama.

Scheffler and Smith are the final two, Dustin Johnson’s runner-up at 2020 Masters. They will be shown at 240pm ET (1840 GMT).

Others will be expected to take up the charge if they want to get involved.

South Korean Im Sung-jae, who will be playing with Shane Lowry (the 2019 British Open champion), five paces ahead.

South Africa’s Charl Schwartzzel is the 2011 Masters Champion and is currently seven behind his partner Justin Thomas, who is eight back.

Woods is currently playing in his first Masters event after a 14-month-old car accident nearly cost his right leg.

On Tuesday, the 46-year old confirmed that he will play in the Masters. He also stated that he believes he can win a sixth Green Jacket record.

Woods, a 15-time major winner, made a remarkable comeback. He was in contention for the first two rounds. However any chance of winning ended Saturday when he shot a 6-over 78. This is Woods’s lowest ever Augusta National score.

Jon Rahm and he were with Smith at the start of Sunday morning’s action, which began at 1050 AM ET (1450 GMT). This was almost four hours earlier than Scheffler.

Woods will be greeted by a standing ovation in the crowd for his bravery when he leaves the 18th green.
