Biden authorizes additional $800 million in assistance for Ukraine

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden announced another $800 million in military assistance on Wednesday following a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Biden stated that the package will include existing weapons systems, which were deployed in Ukraine’s fight against the Soviet Union. He also added “new capabilities tailored for the wider attack we expect Russia in eastern Ukraine,” when announcing the addition of arms.

“These capabilities are artillery systems and artillery round, as well as armored personnel carriers. Additionally, I approved additional helicopter transfers. Biden stated, “In addition, we continue facilitating the transfer of significant capacities from our allies or partners around the world.”

According to the Biden administration, more than $1.7 billion has been paid in security aid to Ukraine in recent weeks since Russia invaded in February. According to the White House: The U.S. has given $2.4 billion total to Ukraine since Biden became president.
