Tornado rips through Central Texas, injuring 23 -Breaking

(Reuters] – Wednesday will see a small town in Central Texas assess the extent of damage caused by a tornado which left 23 people hurt and damaged buildings and trees, as well as downed power lines.

At around 5:30 PM local time, Tuesday’s tornado formed in Williamson County. On Tuesday it entered Bell County where it traveled 7 mi (11 km), leaving an area of destruction.

He stated that the tornado had left a lot of debris behind. “Large trees uprooted, overturned, stripped. It was a rumbling sound as buildings collapsed. All over the city, powerlines were scattered. It’s quite devastating.”

Blackburn reported that approximately 23 people sustained injuries and 12 people were transported to the hospital. She added that everyone had been identified by authorities.

Most of the damage occurred in Salado (a Bell County town of 2300 residents, 50 miles north-east of Austin). Photos and videos on local media, as well as social media footage showed extensive damage to homes and the debris that was thrown across roads and yards.

Storms, hail, and heavy rain were all part of the system that created the tornado. It was felt across the U.S. Midwest, South, and South.
