Here are the expectations of Wall Street:

  • StreetAccount reports that earnings were $1.55 per share in the current period. This is 57% less than what was reported for the previous year.
  • Revenues: $18.15 Billion, 6.1% less than one year ago
  • StreetAccount: Net interest income $10.66 trillion
  • Trading Revenue: Fixed Income, $4.06 Billion; Equities, $1.12 Billion
  • 1.21 Billion in Investment Banking

Citigroup’s exposure to Russian invasion of Ukraine will have a significant impact on how much Citigroup is willing to take. Citigroup CEO will have to answer that question. Jane FraserShe took control of the New York-based bank last year. To improve bank returns, she announced plans in the last year to exit over 13 countries.

Citigroup is the largest of the large U.S. banks, with more than 100 operations, and has likely the greatest exposure to the conflict in Ukraine. Analysts will seek to learn about the impact of war on Citigroup, which includes its plan sale of a Russian consumer bank unit.

Fraser presented analysts last month a brand new report set of financial targets, including a medium-term goal for returns on tangible common equity, a key banking industry metric, of about 11% to 12%. Citigroup will, as the rest, experience a decline in investment banking revenue. However, this should be balanced by an increase in interest rates.

Citigroup shares lost 17% in 2015, despite trading at the lowest valuation of peers. This is compared to 10.5% drops for the KBW Bank Index.

JPMorgan reported its first-quarter profits on Wednesday slumpedIt lost 42% due to Russia sanctions. The company also set aside money for possible loan losses in the future. Its shares plunged after the news and fell to a 52-week intraday high.
