PARIS (Reuters). Emmanuel Macron, the French far-right candidate for president accused Marin Le Pen of retaining extremist and authoritarian views despite a softening image during her current campaign, criticized her on Thursday.
Le Pen stated that “This (criticism), makes my smile because we never had a President who showed more signs d extremism as Emmanuel Macron,” France 2 radio broadcaster France 2 said. Le Pen cited police action against demonstrations like the yellow vest movement.
Le Pen stated that if she was elected President, it would be possible to have a referendum in public about the reintroduction or removal of the death penalty. Le Pen previously stated that she personally would not vote for such an action.
