(Reuters] – Planned Parenthood, along with other abortion providers sued Thursday to block a new Kentucky law that requires them to discontinue offering the procedure until they meet specific requirements. They claimed it amounts to an unconstitutional ban.

One day after the Republican-led legislature overrode the veto of the Democratic governor, a Planned Parenthood affiliate filed separate lawsuits.

This made Kentucky the first U.S. State without legal abortion access, since 1973 Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade. Abortion providers claim that the measure makes Kentucky the only state with such access.

It was “impossible” for the law to apply to many new requirements and regulations regarding abortion.

This law requires that a stillbirth or combination certificate be issued for every abortion. It also bans any abortions performed after the 15-week mark.

The lawsuits, by Planned Parenthood and EMW Women’s Surgical Center, argued that by giving them no time to comply, the law violated their due process rights and patients’ privacy rights.

In an attempt to stop the enforcement of the law, the abortion providers want a temporary order for restraining.

In anticipation of the U.S. Supreme Court backing a Mississippi 15-week ban on abortion this spring, Republican-led states have been quickly passing anti-abortion legislation this year.

The U.S. Supreme Court currently has a conservative majority of 6-3 and was open to the possibility that Roe V. Wade would be reversed or overturned during December’s arguments.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed into law Thursday a ban against abortions within 15 weeks. Oklahoma’s Governor signed on Tuesday a law banning abortions within 15 weeks. This ban will take effect in the summer.
