REUTERS/Leah MillisWASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The White House published an action plan Thursday aimed to advance racial equality across federal government agencies in order to increase diversity.
White House stated that this strategy aims to make sure the federal government is an example of diversity and equity, and prevent discrimination based upon gender identity or sexual orientation.
A senior official in the administration told reporters that every agency within government was taking measures to increase equity through the implementation of new rules.
The U.S. Treasury Department said it would create a new Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility to develop and drive a cohesive strategy across the department and its bureaus.
Treasury announced that the office would be headed by a Treasury senior career leader, who will support employees of color and women as well as veterans and military personnel, as well members of LGBTQ+ communities.
In a White House factsheet, it was stated that the Defense Department leverages federal contracting in order to close wealth gaps.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, they are putting more emphasis on environmental justice and disadvantaged communities. The Health and Human Services Department also works hard to improve Medicaid coverage after birth and combat maternal mortality.
