STOCKHOLM – On Friday, violent riots broke out when counter-protesters tried to attack police in response to a right-wing extremist protest.
According to police, four cars of police were set on fire by protesters. At least 4 officers and 1 private person sustained injuries as a result.
Rasmus Paludan (leader of the far-right Danish political party Hard Line) organized the demonstration after he had been granted permission by police. Police disbanded the demonstration to calm the situation, and later in the evening said most counter-demonstrators had left the area.
Several violent protests in Sweden against Paludan’s planned demonstrations have been reorganized. Swedish news agency TT reported that violence broke out in Rinkeby, a Stockholm suburb. This happened after Paludan had earlier set fire to a Quranic copy.
Police stated that some officers admitted to the hospital were suffering from suspected arm fractures.
