DAO Regulation in Australia: Part 3: Problems and Solutions

Australia’s lawmakers want decentralized autonomous organisations (DAOs) to be regulated. Oleksii Konashevych, a three-parter series author discusses possible solutions and the dangers of stifling DAOs’s growth.

It is not likely that crypto anarchy would be the future most people want. Although there are many positive aspects to company regulation or, at the very least, good intentions, it often results in red tape that restricts business. However, most regulations and corporate rules are now formalized in a way that can be embedded into the machine code. Therefore, it is the job of the government to set mandatory standards that DAOs can operate on the Australian market.

Oleksii KonashevychHas a Ph.D. from the University of Queensland in Law, Science and Technology and is now the CEO at the Australian Institute for Digital Transformation. His academic research led him to a novel concept for property registries that use a blockchain. His idea for title tokens was supported by technical protocols to allow smart laws and digital authorities. This will enable fully-featured legal governance of digital property rights. A cross-chain protocol allowing multiple ledgers to be used for a blockchain estate register was also created by him. He presented it to the Australian Senate 2021.
