MEXICO CITY (Reuters – Mexican State Oil Company Pemex was fighting an unattended fire in a gas storage tank at Salina Cruz refinery, southern Oaxaca.

Emergency crews had managed to control part of Friday’s fire, but wind gusts rekindled it on Saturday. A source at an oil company told Reuters that this was despite the fact that other parts of the facility were not affected by the fire.

Sources said that there were no injuries.

Television images revealed a thick plume of smoke coming from within the refinery.

A second fire destroyed the Salina Cruz refinery on August 8.

Oaxaca Civil Protection reported via its Twitter account (NYSE:) that the authorities were currently restricting access to the complex.

It stated that the police and the local government had supported the cordoning off of the affected area to prevent any problems.

According to Eikon Refinitiv data, Salina Cruz can process 330,000 barrels of oil per day.

A second fire broke out at the Pemex refinery in northern Mexico, however it was contained quickly without any injury to personnel or interruption to production.
