Warner Music Group Joins Leading Web3 Protocol Poap Inc. For Shared Memories as NFTs

Warner Music Group (WMG) has entered into the first-ever partnership with leading Web3 protocol POAP Inc. Short for “Proof of Attendance Protocol,” POAPs are digital mementos minted as NFTs in celebration of life’s remarkable moments. Atlantic Records’ Kevin Gates will incorporate POAPs in his Khaza Tour. One POAP will be available for fans attending his sold out show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, April 16th.

Gates stated, “Any time we can give our extended families something new, special and organic, it’s a win-win situation.” This will be our first performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Nervous, excited and ready. This has been an extremely long process. We can’t wait to see everyone grab their POAPs and commemorate this moment in time. This is going to be an unforgettable night. We can’t wait for everyone to join us! Final words: I will always be The Same. Forever: #TheBeloved.”
“The bridges that POAPs forge between our digital identities and our physical lives provide a tangible layer to our experiences and memories,” said Oana Ruxandra, Chief Digital Officer & EVP, Business Development, WMG. “Music is always contextual: how we see a record and who or what we’re doing will affect our perceptions of it. Artists and fans have new options to preserve memories shared for a lifetime with POAPs. “We look forward to continuing to innovate and explore with the POAP team.”
Isabel Gonzalez, POAP CEO said that POAPs “are a game changer for artists who want direct contact with their fans.” Popping a POAP is a great way for artists to mark a special show. It’s more durable than tickets stubs. It’s much harder to lose mementos when they’re minted to a blockchain – and once artists are ready to dive deep into the potential of Web3 technologies, POAPs let their fans share that journey. WMG and its partners are extremely excited for our support.
“From Oliver Tree’s Cowboy Tears album launch event to Kevin Gates’ headline show at Red Rocks, POAPs allow us to commemorate these special moments and give loyal fans a way to relive their experiences while being rewarded for being supporters of their favorite artists,” said Joe Khoury, VP of A&R and Marketing, Atlantic Records. The POAP team is thrilled to collaborate with POAP in order to create unique opportunities for artists to connect with their communities.
Collectors can create digital proof that they were present at an event, or part of an experience by minting memories. This allows them to connect to an online community with like-minded individuals. A POAP allows collectors to access future rewards such as raffles and airdrops. They can also have exclusive content or private chat rooms. Atlantic Records’ rising star Oliver Tree was the first WMG artist to tap into the technology, offering a POAP to fans who joined a pop-up event celebrating the launch of his latest album, Cowboy Tears.

More than 4.5M POAPs have been distributed to collectors so far.

POAP Inc. was launched in 2018 and incorporated by The Cherning Group in 2021. In January 2018, Advancit Capital participated in a seed round of $10 million led by Archetype. Sapphire Sport also joined the Round. Other crypto native funds included Collab Currency and 1KX, Libertus Capital and Red Beard Ventures. 6th Man Ventures and Delphi Digital were also involved.
