The future of the internet: Inside the race for Web3’s infrastructure

People interact with open-source applications like MetaMask, Web3 games, the metaverse and DeFi protocols every day but don’t often stop to think about what happens in the background for it all to work. Node infrastructure providers provide the power grid which makes Web3 possible.

DApps all need to connect with blockchains. Every day, full nodes handle billions in requests from DApps for data and read/write to the chain. To keep pace with the rapidly expanding DApp ecosystems, and to serve all requests, we need an enormous node infrastructure. Running nodes takes a lot of capital and time, so DApp developers turn to service providers to get remote access. Infrastructure providers have a huge incentive to support as many Web3 ecosystems possible. But who’s winning the race?
