Hedera 2022 Hackathon Starts with Virtual Opening Ceremony- Officially, the Hedera22 Smart Contract Hackathon is now underway.
- The challenges faced by the ceremony’s opening were announced by the team.

A virtual opening ceremony has been held for the Hedera22 Smart Contract Hackathon. Hedera Development Relations Head Gehrig Kunz was joined by Ed Marquez (Developer Evangelist) who led the session. He highlighted the highlights and challenged they had in store and took the audience through the event.
Donald Thibeau was Chief Strategy Officer for the HBAR Foundation and also attended the on-line event.

“Smart contracts offer developers the ability to go after very compelling use cases in the areas of DeFi, NFTs and all kinds of market places,” said Marquez. “And seeing those things being built on Heredera is really exciting for me. And I also think this Smart Contracts Hackathon is a huge driving force for the ecosystem to build utilities and tools that will serve developers.” Marquez also presented a demo of how to create a Hedera Test net developer account.
Kunz also took viewers through some of the Hackathon’s challenges. The Hackathon will feature 15 challenges that teams must complete. Rewards in USD and HBARS are available.

This is the Hedera community’s first-ever Solidity Smart Contract Hackathon. This team invites participants to utilize the EVM compatible Hedera Smart Contract Service in order to develop decentralized apps, protocols or tools, and to be entered for a chance to win $500,000 worth of prizes.
